"The Last Spring Snow" was painted on a 30" x 40" canvas and measures 36" x 42" with frame. The frame itself is handmade, crafted by an artisan woodworker living in the hills of Kentucky.
The painting emphasizes the turning of seasons, juxtaposing budding green leaves with lingering snow. Tree trunks, still in dark winter shadow, enjoy the first bands of early spring sunlight.
This work is very much in the impressionist tradition. Paint is thickly applied. Colors are rich and deeply saturated. New spring leaves are scattered in heavy dabs of green (reminiscent of pointillism ) and rise three-dimensionally from the canvas catching the light--much as leaves catch light in the forest.

The frame which is handmade and hand-painted does show some wear and tear. It is a bit nicked on the very edges but not at all noticeable when the painting is hung. I might add that George's paintings are the "real deal" Canvases are hand stretched. And--as mentioned above, the frame is hand made and lends rustic charm. If one were to look down on the painting--from a very particular angle, the canvas staples might be seen as illustrated above. But these are not at all visible when hanging on the wall and do not alter the visual in any way.. less
