Artwork sold with frame (73 x 59 x 1.5 cm) Hans Berger was a Swiss painter born in Biel/Bienne in 1882. He is known for lyrical landscapes and a personal style that remained independent of major art movements. He moved to Geneva in 1896, studying architecture and drawing. Later, he trained in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and began painting full-time in 1907. Berger won third place in the 1909 Concours Diday and had a solo show at Musée Rath in 1910. His work was exhibited across Switzerland and internationally, including the Venice Biennale (1932, 1938) and Paris salons. Focused on landscapes, portraits, and still lifes, Berger rejected styles like cubism. In 1955, he received Geneva’s city prize for Maternité. His works are held in major Swiss museums. He died in Aire-la-Ville in 1977, leaving a lasting mark on 20th-century Swiss art. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
