In … Read more Hans muller bust of a man with a pipe, late 19th century, signed in italics behind the left shoulder. In good condition, except for minor chipping on the edges of the stone base. The man, of advanced age and dressed in an overcoat, is portrayed smoking a pipe with a lid on the bowl. It has a dark patina and bears a triangle mark containing the letters bm in block letters at the bottom, while the letters aeg appear at the corners. This likely corresponds to the foundry mark that produced the piece.

the austrian sculptor hans muller was born in vienna in 1873 and worked there until his death in 1937. A disciple of edmund hellmer of the vienna academy of art, he is known for his figurative sculptures of viennese society figures. This piece has an attribution mark,
