First published by Country Life between 1955 and 1958, these volumes in the famous English Country Houses series cover the period 1715-1840. They start at the time when English baroque, as practiced by Christopher Wren, was in decline and end with the houses of the reigns of George III, the Prince Regent and William IV. They are the most interesting exposition of the subject ever to be presented. The author has selected the houses that best illustrate the progression of styles and decorations.
