An elegant Japanese tansu from the Meiji period (ca. 1900), featuring a rich reddish-brown lacquer finish and beautifully detailed iron fittings.
Dimensions: height 48.5 cm, width 88 cm, depth 41 cm.
The chest offers two spacious drawers and a small side door that opens to reveal two additional interior drawers. The fittings are crafted from dark forged iron, with circular lock plates decorated with floral motifs, and reinforced corners and edges that enhance both structure and aesthetics.
The deep red lacquer contrasts beautifully with the dark ironwork, highlighting the refined character of this piece. Subtle traces of age and patina reveal its history and embody the authentic wabi-sabi spirit — the quiet beauty of imperfection and time.
This tansu is not only a historical and decorative object but also a practical and stylish piece of furniture for contemporary interiors — perfect as a low console or as a base for displaying ceramics, art, or plants.
