If you are looking at this listing, you must love trompe l’oeil as much as I do. It is always fun and fabulous and this oil on canvas is no exception. The objects in the painting include a newspaper clipping about a Show House, measuring tape, paint brush, key, notice to decorators, 1976 calendar, pencil and ticket. I think we are looking at a decorator’s work board for a Show House project but you can use your imagination to come up with your own story. And that is another fun aspect of a trompe l’oeil painting…they always tell a story! If you are from Atlanta, you may think the ‘Show House’ looks like Callanwolde and it might indeed be the inspiration as Caroline Klopstock, the artist, also called Atlanta home. In fact, this painting is from her estate which was a wonderland of art and folk art collectibles from around the world. The canvas is stretched on wood and simply framed in gold tone aluminum. There is no wire or hook for hanging. Signed in the design.
The painting is wonderful though it is in need of cleaning and an updated frame. There is both age related spotting and surface soiling throughout…please review the photographs carefully especially photos 11 and 12.
The painting measures 24.25” wide x 20.25” tall x 1.5” deep. The frame is thin so the measurements will basically be the same without the frame.
