This lovely … Read more A 1930’s ethereal watercolor depiction of a nude in a naturalistic landscape by American artist, Rosella Hartman (1895-1984). This lovely painting has a feminine aesthetic and expertly combines pastel shades of greens, blues, teal and pink. There is a goddess quality to the nude that provides the scene a mystical effect. Ms. Hartman studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League of New York and was the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1934. She was actively exhibited in New York galleries during the 1930’s and examples of her work can be found in the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This piece is matted and framed in bleached wood with glass. Signed across the bottom. From the Atlanta estate of a nonagenarian art and book collector.

The painting is in good condition though the framing could stand to be updated. The linen mat is aged and spotted.

The painting in frame measures 20.25” wide x 17” tall x 2.25” deep. I did not take the frame apart but the painting without frame appears to measure approximately 16” wide x 12.75” tall. See less
