The artist is a lifelong nature and geology enthusiast. She likes the textural, layered effects she can achieve with oil and cold wax, similar to weathered surfaces in wood and stone. Laurie was thrilled when her geologist friend commented that this painting looked like a volcano, without knowing the title! This painting is on gallery wrapped canvas, and is signed on the back. It is in a black wood floater frame with a narrow gold front edge, which is wired and ready to hang.
Laurie MacMillan has enjoyed numerous awards and five solo exhibitions, and has had pieces selected for over a hundred juried group shows. Her work is held in personal and business collections across the U.S. and in Britain.
