This auction house was founded in 1681 and is the world’s second oldest registered auction house. The auction hall overlooked the harbor, and among the ornate furniture and gilded mirrors, these chairs immediately caught my eye. Their simple lines, hand-carved backs, and time-worn patina stood apart, reflecting the rustic character of rural Scandinavian life. When the bidding began, I knew I had to bring them home.
