Created by the Legras-Montjoye glassworks during the Art Deco period (1920-1939) in France, this charming bucket with its handle was designed to hold cookies and cupcakes to take on picnics or to protect them from damage in the kitchen.

Highly decorative, these cookie buckets are true folk art objects and were used primarily as decorative objects: their highly handcrafted and colorful appearance stood out well within their interior design.

Its design is typical of the Art Deco period: symmetrical geometric shapes (round, oval, and rectangular). Linearity replaces the organic nature of Art Nouveau, but retains its inspiration from nature: leaves, flora, and branches. Its orange colors are reminiscent of autumn.

A true collector's item today, this biscuit bucket is a testament to the expertise of French artisans during the "Roaring Twenties," the final years of the Legras-Montjoye factory before its final closure. Founded in 1837 by François-Désiré Legras (father of Auguste Legras), the factory closed in 1939 due to the successive economic and political crises of the period: the Great Depression and then World War II in Europe.
