A finely handwoven Hereke rug from Turkey, dating to the early 20th century. Hereke rugs were produced in imperial workshops near Istanbul and are considered among the most prestigious textiles of the Ottoman Empire.
This example features a central medallion framed by an oval lattice field, with scrolling floral sprays and neoclassical borders. The palette of soft gold, pale blue, ivory, and terracotta reflects the European Aubusson influence that was fashionable in Ottoman court design.
