Joan Saló is a Spanish contemporary abstract painter whose meticulous, meditative approach creates works that bridge manual gesture with digital-age precision. He lives and works in Berlin.
Working primarily with ink and acrylic on canvas, he employs repetitive mark-making techniques that accumulate into complex linear compositions, exploring themes of time, consciousness, and the relationship between brain and hand. His distinctive style reconciles primitive and technological references, creating "open artworks" that function as mental and sensory maps, inviting viewers to engage through intuitive rather than intellectual interpretation.
In this latest body of work, Saló investigates the phenomenon of solar eclipse shadows—umbra, penumbra, and antumbra—through a series of monochromatic canvases that manipulate tone and luminosity. Working with single-color acrylics, he compresses his artistic process into decisive, concentrated moments of creation.
