Airplanes, blue, newspaper 1933, Italy, Sicily Initialed lower right M. The work is sold with a certificate of authenticity from the Michele Falanga archive - Messina - Italy Michele Falanga (1865-1937) Falanga was able to combine the power of the word with the delicacy of the image. A craftsman, poet, and man of letters, he dedicated his artistic life first to writing, making words the main tool for expressing his vision of the world, before approaching painting only in the 1920s. His art, both visual and literary, becomes a continuous social and personal reflection, in a historical period of constant change. Michele Falanga embraces the perspective innovations of aeropainting, interpreting them with a completely personal sensitivity and imprint. His figure emerges as a witness to a well-defined historical and cultural climate, but also as the protagonist of a unique artistic adventure that is strongly placed in the context of Futurism between the two wars. They intensify or broaden, giving rise to new gradations of shapes and colors. Falanga's research, while not strictly tied to the Futurist movement, develops in an extremely personal and imaginative manner. While looking with interest to the ideals of his time, he reworks them in an original way, integrating the most disruptive artistic trends of the period with a unique and intimate vision. His works represent a fusion of art, history, and territory through a seemingly simple yet equally powerful medium: newspaper. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
