These beautiful Lightolier brass-plated ceiling lights designed by Gerald Thurston were produced and sold in the 1950s. They are quite firmly rooted in the atomic mid century modern style and the holes in the shades create a very special "starry" effect. This particular set of 3 lights is complete with all original parts including Lightolier branded glass "lenses" as well as mounting plates. A Lightolier label is visible on the bottom of one light and partially visible on the other two.
These lights are around 7.5" in height (or length if you prefer) and 5.25" in diameter. There are many places they could be used including over a bar, dining table, mantle, or as part of an art installation, illuminating a painting or sculpture for example. Three original metal 7.25" backing plates are included. This light fixtures use standard E26 bulbs and can utilize a variety of bulb shapes. They are hardwired and should be installed by an electrician.
The condition is vintage and with blemishes although the blemishes are really quite minimal. There has been no attempt made to omit or hide anything in the photos. Blemishes include light surface scratching to the brass plating, some deeper scratches on at least one place on each of two lights, some chipping of the brass plating, and one place that appears to possibly be epoxy as it wouldn't come off with the standard chemicals we use for cleaning. There are no dents, cracks, or tears. The original porcelain sockets have been replaced with new porcelain sockets allowing for high wattage incandescent bulbs, or preferably, cooler-running LED bulbs. The cord plug-in shown in one of the photos is what the lights had when I acquired them but now they just have a white and a black wire for hard wiring.
Included are the fixtures with sockets and glass lens/covers as well as three original base mounting plates which allow the lights to be easily mounted to a flat surface. These base plates are 7.25" in diameter. There are 3 mounting holes to be mounted to the surface and they are 5-3/8" on center (from each other) or 3-1/16" from the center hole.
In the photos I've attempted to show all included items, blemishes, as well as what the lights look like with dim amber bulbs (mood lighting). Any props used to show size and context such as vases, brass figurines and coke cans will not be included in the sale.
