On the Design:

Admirers of the craft may recognize the geometric patterns’ subtle resemblance to the rows of Mihrab gateways—or prayer arches—seen in “Saf” rugs, known to repeat these large rectangular motifs in rows similar to this work. This piece is a uniquely minimalist approach to this concept, with a simple yet rich play of brick red geometric patterns in rounded oval-rectangle combinations atop a cream beige ground. Keen eyes for detail may further note that one row at the bottom varies, which may signify that this was a fragment of a larger rug (as does its overall design). It’s a gorgeous architectural piece with an unexpected, almost modern-minimalist beauty to it, quite special for its period.
