A painter of genre and figures … Read more Georgette Nivert was born around 1900 in Paris and attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. A painter of genre and figures from the French School of the first half of the 20th century, she loved to represent portraits, maternities, reclining female nudes as well as scenes from Parisian life. Her work initially showed influences of Marie Laurencin in its soft and pastel style approach. As time passed her own style emerged, still soft and somewhat dreamlike but with a greater sense of palette and construction. Her work was admired at the Paris Salons where she exhibited regularly. Nivert is also well known for her depictions of gypsies.
Georgette Nivert is perhaps best known for the portrait of Princess Soraya Esfandiari, second wife of the Shah of Iran.
