Montserrat Barta (1907-1988) was a Spanish painter active in Madrid and Barcelona during the 20th century. She was a student at the Barcelona School of Fine Art and she was married to the Spanish artist Gumersindo Sainz. Her style can best be described as post-impressionist but she was also an accomplished illustrator who assisted in the design of children's books. Indeed, children were among her favorite subject matter. And yet her paintings of dancers, show-girls, actresses and follies are among her most collected pieces. This particular painting of the Follies Monte Carlo dates from the mid 1960's and is displayed in a contemporary replacement frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition. See less
