George Regnault (1898-1976) called himself the "last of the impressionists" he may have been in fact the last "post-impressionist" painter … Read more George Regnault (1898-1976) called himself the "last of the impressionists" he may have been in fact the last "post-impressionist" painter of his generation. Born outside Paris he is known for his colorful and lively scenes in and around Paris active from the mid 1920's until his death 50+ years later. But as interesting as his French scenes are he came into his own by recording the city and village scenes of Spain's northern Basque region. This painting is an excellent example of his best work.

Here is a biography courtesy of one of the artist's agents: born in Neuilly sur Seine. Post-impressionist. Student of P.A. Laurens. Awarded by the city of Paris and the Fine Arts. Member of various painting salons including the Winter Salon. He participates in numerous exhibitions in France including: Nice, Royan, Vichy, Angoulême, and Paris, as well as abroad: Madrid, Granada, Barcelona, San Francisco, and Caracas. See less
