This wooden sculpture features a wonderful patina due to its age and is hand-painted with a mix of white and bright colors. According to Hindu mythology, Nandi is a protector of the god Shiva. Nandi is a mythical bull who helps him fight against demons and evil. Temples dedicated to Shiva are often adorned with statues of Nandi. This Nandi sculpture is painted with a predominantly white pigment, symbolizing purity and justice. It has a hollow space near the back. In good condition consistent with its age, it has some cracks in the wood and the ends of the horns have been repaired. India, mid-19th century. See less
