A brilliantly executed and very endearing canine composition of a greyhound, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel by British artist Matt Rix.

The sleek brown dog is depicted reclining elegantly on a flat green field, its elongated body and arched back capturing the breed’s natural poise and elegance. A bright yellow collar adds a touch of vibrancy, standing out against the dog’s smooth, earthy coat.

The background is simple and restrained: a pale grey sky with soft, stylized clouds and a few rounded green shrubs, which frame the composition without distracting from the central subject. The muted, balanced colour palette keeps the focus on the dog’s refined form.

This oil on board is housed in a wide profile dark wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.
