Madeline, by Ludwig Bemelmans, is one of the most celebrated children's books of all time. Madeline tells the story of a brave little girl who goes to an all-girls boarding school in Paris led by Miss Clavel. One night, Madeline's appendix ruptures and she is rushed to the hospital. After her surgery, Madeline is greet by Miss Clavel and her classmates, who give her flowers and a doll house from her father. After Madeline shows her classmates the scar from her surgery, they want their appendix out too. Miss Clavel assures them they are fine and sends them back to bed.
