It comes from *Der Rittersaal: Eine Geschichte des Ritterthums*, published by Carl Hoffmann in Stuttgart, with artistic contributions by Friedrich Martin von Reibisch and historical commentary by Dr. Franz Kottenkamp. This important work sought to illustrate the customs, fashions, and material culture of knighthood and feudal society. In this particular scene, two mounted figures guide their horses side-by-side, each carrying a tall, striped standard. These eye-catching standards, twisted in alternating bands of color, evoke the festive atmosphere of jousts, triumphal entries, and courtly celebrations. The men’s garments, rendered in rich reds, blues, and yellows, are skillfully highlighted by the lithographer’s hand-applied colors. from the sheen on the horses’ flanks to the subtle shading on the riders’ attire, every detail has been carefully captured, resulting in a lively and authentic portrayal. The print remains in very good condition for its age. Minor creases and gentle toning at the edges attest to its genuine antiquity, yet do not diminish the clarity of detail or the vibrancy of the colors. Collectors of historical costume prints, medieval pageantry, or equestrian-themed art will find much to admire in this rare piece. Its combination of historical authenticity, fine craftsmanship, and visual appeal makes it a worthy addition to any distinguished collection. See less
