Original 1932 lithograph from "The National Costumes of Holland" by Gratiane de Gardilanne and Elizabeth Whitney Moffatt, limited to only 500 printed copies. This plate (XXVI) depicts traditional wedding attire from Volendam in the first half of the 19th century. The bride wears the vibrant 'zevenkleurige rok' (seven-colored skirt), an elaborately embroidered 'bulletje' cap, and a floral 'kroplap'. The groom, shown in his festive 'ruige muts' (astrakhan cap), wide black trousers, and 'blauwbaai' winter jacket, completes the cheerful wedding pair. They wear both the old style ice-skates named 'houtjes' on their feet. The background of Dutch Delft-style tiles featuring sailing ships enhances the composition and evokes Volendam’s maritime setting.
Condition: Very good vintage condition. The image area is clean and bright, with vivid, unfaded colors. Margins show some light edge wear consistent with age, not affecting the printed image. Ready for framing.
