With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this wonderful antique portfolio stand. This remarkable example was constructed at the height of The Victorian era in the Renaissance Revival style by a master furniture artisan. Every intricate detail of this portfolio stand is executed to the highest exacting standards of this period. The table was designed with excellent proportions and a desirable size which can be uncommonly difficult to find. Antique portfolio stands in general are quite rare and popular among artists. art collectors, antique photography collectors, and those with historic interiors searching for the perfect antique for a library or parlor.
The entire stand is constructed from a beautiful selection of walnut and features a spectacular shaped form accented with masterfully incised carvings which were nearly all carefully gilt painted. The three portfolio compartment spaces are situated over stylized Grecian urn formed sides that stand on down-swept carved legs with caster wheels. The varying carved embellishments and designs in this high Renaissance Revival manner are reminiscent of the master furniture maker Thomas Brookes, a famous cabinetmaker and furniture designer working in New York City at the height of The Victorian era. The portfolio stand is in excellent condition and has developed a wonderful walnut color that has enriched over time. We do note some wooden edges with some wear that are of no consequence to the stand overall. This example is both incredibly rare and absolutely beautiful and we have no doubt it will be cherished by someone in search of the perfect antique piece for their home.
The antique portfolio stand measures 18 1/2" wide x 14" deep x 35 3/4" tall overall.
