American mahogany candle stand, mid 1700s. The graceful oval top is of one board with a molded edge and is made to tilt and stands over a properly turned urn shaped stem on three slender cabriole legs terminating in snake feet. Please note the proper lift to the legs and excellent proportion overall. These were made to tilt to go against the wall when not in use. A pleasant older finish is a highlight to this delightful example of American cabinet making.
Height 27 3/4 inches, base 19 3/4“ x 19 3/4“. The top 24 1/2“ x 16“.
