Mathurin Moreau (1822 - 1912) France. Large pair of bronzes in opposition with rich brown patina. Original 19th century bronze sculptures of Two young girls in a field with chickens and baskets. Fine quality and beautiful image. Each signed at base, Moreau, Math. Hors Concours.
Mathurin Moreau born 1822, died 1912
The eldest son of sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau, and brother to Auguste and Hippolte. Math debuted at the Salon in 1848, He worked for a period of time at the foundry of Val d'Osne, and in his later years became one it's administrators. Many of his works can be seen around Paris, as he worked for Saint-Augustin and Trinité churches, the Opera, the palais de Justice, city hall, the Tuileries and the pavillion of Marsan at the Louvre. His smaller sculptures were of statues, statuettes and groups in pleasant decorative themes.
