An authentic 18th century hand-forged iron candle wick trimmer with attached wick catcher, from a Setauket, Long Island farmhouse dating to 1740. Crafted by a blacksmith, this functional tool was an essential household item in colonial America, used to trim candle wicks and collect the burnt portion in the small lidded box to keep the flame burning cleanly.
