In 1958, Norman Cherner was hired by Plycraft president Paul Goldman to improve upon the design of the failed "Pretzel" chair originally created for Herman Miller Set of 4 Cherner Chairs by Bernardo / Plycraft at 1stDibs | bernardo plycraft chair. After Cherner submitted his design, he was told the project had been scrapped. However, Cherner later discovered his design being sold in a New York showroom with the label crediting "Bernardo" as the designer.

Cherner sued Plycraft in 1961 and won the case. Paul Goldman admitted that "Bernardo" was a fictitious name. This deception allowed Plycraft to sell Cherner's design without paying him royalties initially.

This set of four is from one of the original production runs of Cherner's design between 1958 and 1961. See less
