A British naval frigate with White Ensign struggles in stormy waters as a rescue boat comes alongside.The watercolour is very delicately painted, with sophisticated use of scratching out and stopping out. The fine painting style, with tiny figures and precise rigging lines, resembles the work of George Chambers Senior OWS (1803–1840), one of the great marine painters of the 19th century.Provenance: The Collection of the etcher Percy James Westwood (1878–1958) and by descent.All artworks come with a Certificate of Authenticity and—if it is a collection artwork—its accompanying collection text or artist biography.
