On the Design:

A conservative, humble palette of beige-brown and muted slate gray tones underscores this design, which enjoys a play of architectural octagonal shapes in its borders and central medallion. Admirers of the craft may note a subtle inspiration from Mamluk-design medallions in this rug’s eight-pointed star in the field, though this this has been seen among some of the more celebrated Turkish weaving provenances (but rarely in such a fabulous scale for such a versatile small-sized rug). The execution of sharp detail and color variety alike are both quite impressive for its size—two of many beauties in the shabby-chic, almost archaic beauty this mid-century rug boasts.
