A magnificent and exceptionally rare secretary desk from the esteemed American maker, Henkel Harris. Crafted in 1941, this piece stands out as an early production model, showcasing the superb craftsmanship and attention to detail for which the brand is celebrated. It features a graceful serpentine or bombé front and elegant cabriole legs ending in iconic ball-and-claw feet. The rich mahogany wood and classic design make it a perfect addition to a traditional or eclectic interior.
This secretary desk is more than just a piece of furniture; it is a collectible from one of the finest American furniture manufacturers. The desk is constructed from solid, high-quality mahogany with a deep, warm patina. The upper case has a hinged, drop-down top that opens to a beautifully fitted interior with a series of small drawers and cubbies, offering practical organization without sacrificing style.
The most distinctive feature is the desk's "bombe" front, a challenging design that speaks to superior craftsmanship. The three drawers, with their original brass hardware, conform seamlessly to the elegant curve. The hand-carved cabriole legs and ball-and-claw feet are meticulously executed, reflecting the high standards of Henkel Harris's early production.
The provenance of this desk is particularly noteworthy. A maker's stamp on the reverse side includes the company's early "HH" mark, along with a production code of "8-41," which dates the desk to August of 1941. This makes it an especially rare find and a desirable piece for collectors of the brand.
This desk is in excellent original condition with minor, age-appropriate wear. It combines timeless 18th-century design with the unparalleled quality of a mid-20th-century American masterpiece.
