brand cristallerie lorraine, founded in 1925 in lemberg, lorraine, by théodore heitzmann, was one of the finest french crystal manufacturers of the 20th century. Born of the experience of masters from nearby saint-louis, it quickly managed to distinguish itself through the quality of its blowing and the richness of its decorations. In the 1930s it introduced innovative workmanship, such as the "taille martelée," and later made a name for itself with colored glasses in overlapping crystal and hand-engraved, prized for both tableware and collectibles. After difficulties related to the wars and industrial competition, the glassware was relaunched in the 1970s, but permanently ceased production in 1997. Today its pieces are sought after for their understated elegance and quality craftsmanship, considered witnesses to a glass art that, while less famous than baccarat or saint-louis, equaled its sophistication.
