The ‘motionless light double candelabrum’ and ‘night strikes sparks triple candelabrum’ are sculptural works that blur the line between art and function. In their balance of form, light, and material, they transform the candelabrum from a utilitarian object into an intimate meditation on space, presence, and tension. Following the ‘moulin lamp’, these candelabra mark a new chapter in kym ellery's design journey. As she continues to explore the sculptural possibilities of light, they deepens her exploration of how form can disrupt and harmonize, drawing on the same rawness and refinement that define her evolving design language. The ‘motionless light double’ is marked by minimal curves and a sense of suspended balance. Crafted from brass, metal resin, brass, plaster, and plastic, its surfaces reflect soft candlelight, with each piece unique due to the hand-applied resin texture. The ‘night strikes sparks triple’ expands on this dialogue, introducing three flames in a harmonious, fluid composition. The piece speaks to the interplay between solid form and delicate light, its polished surfaces diffusing the glow with understated elegance. Together, these pieces form a cohesive series, each one singular yet interwoven in vision. Limited to an edition of eight, the ‘motionless light double’ and ‘night strikes sparks triple’ elevate the act of illumination into an ongoing exploration of material, light, and sculpture. Atelier ellery my practice is rooted in architectural form, material tension, and the relationship between object and body. I work primarily with metals—materials that carry weight, memory, and permanence—shaped into sculptural pieces that invite both physical and visual interaction. These objects often explore gravitational dynamics, considering how weight, balance, and form affect the way the body approaches, responds to, or is held by a structure. These forms often explore boundaries: between intimacy and distance, stillness and movement, structure and softness. Many of my works can be touched, sat in, or moved; kinetic elements are introduced to create a sense of calm, presence, and responsiveness. A movement might echo the body’s gesture or rhythm, subtly shifting how one relates to space. I’m interested in how sculpture can function as a site; something to enter into, rest within, or observe quietly. By folding materials around imagined or real bodies, i seek to create objects that hold a charge: sculptural presences that feel at once solid and open, architectural and emotional. Each piece is a study in form, but also feeling; how a curve invites approach, how a divide becomes a threshold, how metal, when worked by hand, retains the trace of care. See less
