Satisfy your reverence for history, heritage and culture with this rare, oak linen press. Superb farmhouse decor and a real conversation starter. This was used in the homes of wealthy owners and used to press garments, table napkins, garments, aprons and linens. They would place the items between the boards and in essence, ‘iron’ them. Great decor for your laundry room.
It might also have been used by a printing company. In the 1800s, newly inked paper would curl and when put in a press, it would flatten when the ink dried. This press has one drawer and 7 maple boards that fit onto the press platform. The spiral screw mechanism raises and lowers the pressing platform. The double handle is made of cast iron. In excellent condition considering the age and use. The handle has rust oxidation but no corrosion. The boards are maple and the press is white oak. To bring it to its original splendor, a quick fix is to wipe vaseline on the entire piece. Leave it overnight or at least 8 hours, and wipe off with household vinegar. The press weighs about 60 lbs. and the boards another 60lbs.
