Several thin layers of paint of different colors applied with scruffy brushes create the feeling of atmosphere and richness. It's quiet but not still. The strength of the white paint is what makes the painting work. Cover it up with your eye and see how the whole falls flat. That's called tension.

Acrylic paint on paper mounted on gator board. It is a type of heavy foam board now often used as a substrate for artwork for one reason that it is extremely light weight. A painting this size can easily be hung with wire and two nails. (Wire is already attached to the back but easily removed). No glass is needed. A frame would be optional
depending on taste.
