Generally known as Han tomb ladies, these clay molded figures were buried with the deceased for the purpose of afterlife. Many figurines display realistic forms that gives us an open window of the contemporary life then.
This female figurine is of a Classic form, tall and slender in a slight forward posture with lowered head and down casting eyes, suggesting her status as lady in waiting. The hands were made of organic materials and no longer exist. The molded face, the coiffure, and the robes are still very distinguishable. Some polychrome paints and earth encrust remain on the surface. Displayed in a custom-fit stand.
