The painting, Peonies on an Antique Platter, makes me smile because I am reminded of the morning when my son and I found the platter at a garage sale in Poulsbo. When I was 15, I attended a gymnasium in Vienna for the school year. It seemed special that this particular platter was Viennese and very beautiful. I raise the pink peonies in my garden and the whole thing put together just makes me happy!
The painting is a 16 x 20, and has no imperfections. It was painted in 2020, The use of broad brushwork with the light peonies against the dark negative space, creates a strong painting. At the same time, I have created a definite feminine mood with my choice of subject matter and color.
