Antique Towle Lafayette 13.5" Sterling Silver Fish/ Soup Serving Ladle Circa 1910 ( Rare Size - 8+ Troy Oz of Silver )
This antique fish serving ladle has attributes that can appeal to collectors of antique Towle Lafayette sterling silver pieces, general antique specialty serve ware collectors and sterling silver enthusiasts alike.
We acquired this at an estate sale then curated it for Chairish and it was accepted.
I researched this piece very well and am confident of the maker and pattern and the era in which it was produced. This piece is monogrammed with a big "B" on the handle.
This is a rare piece of Towle Lafayette serveware as it is about 22% larger than anything I found currently for sale or recently sold. The original shape of the ladle is contoured as it was originally designed - and specifically the lip of the ladle is still in its original shape without major nicking or denting. The lip on the ladle was designed to make pouring liquids more precise and to keep solids that float in liquids coming out more evenly.
It is 13.5 " Long and the ladle bowl is roughly 4" across including the rim.
The ladle bowl depth is nearly 1.25" deep.
This is in good condition for its age structurally. I found no warping, bending, twisting, breakage or signs of melting anywhere. However the surface is scratched and worn in most areas of the ladle, but most visibly on the inside ( concave ) of the ladle. Despite its surface scratches, this big beautiful 13.5" long, 4" wide ladle still shines up like a beauty!
