Description of the item:
Wonderful glazed majolica plaque, worked in bas-relief and finished with metallic lustres, depicting the Madonna and Child in futurist style, signed on the back "A. Biancini" and titled on the side, with the inscription "Madonna dell'Ospitalità" (Madonna of Hospitality).
Useful information for evaluating the item:
From our internet research, we have found that Angelo Biancini has over 200 auction results on Art Price, with maximum prices reached for a single sculpture of €18,000-20,000, while the four highest results range from €3,400 to over €9,500, to which auction fees of 25-30% must always be added. Most of these auction prices are quite dated, ranging from 2002 to 2009, so prices that, compared to today, taking inflation into account, would undoubtedly be much higher. It should also be noted that these are all auction bases, prices that could rise during the auction and to which auction fees of 25-30% must always be added to the final result.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Born in 1911, sculptor and modeler Angelo Biancini began working at a very young age for Paolo Zoli's ceramic manufacturer "La Faience" in the late 1920s. From 1936 to 1940, he was called upon to collaborate with Guido Andlovitz in the artistic direction of "S.C.I." (Società Ceramica Italiana di Laveno). Angelo Biancini died in Castel Bolognese in 1988. Many of his ceramics are preserved in the Museum of Faenza, and a personal room is dedicated to him in the Vatican Museums' collection of Modern Religious Art. Angelo Biancini won many awards during his long artistic career, such as the Gold Medal for Decorative Plastic Arts at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1937 and the Faenza Prize in 1957 for his majolica work entitled "Gesù" (Jesus).
