According to the Old Testament, angels came to warn Lot and his family to flee their city of Sodom, which was about to be destroyed. They advised them not to return to Sodom; Lot's wife ignored these instructions and was then transformed into a pillar of salt.

A geological structure, a pillar of salt named "Lot's Wife," is located in Jordan, on Mount Sodom.

Sculpture signed Ziffer and numbered no. 9/12.

Moshe Ziffer was an Israeli artist (1902-1989), born in Austria-Hungary; he studied sculpture in Berlin, Paris, and Vienna. Most of his works (in stone) are now housed at Tel Aviv University or the Jerusalem Museum.

Good condition - traces of use on the patina.
