stunning, beautiful painting, created using watercolor on paper, depicting the church of the holy apostles in florence, signed lower right c. Mell, dated 1925 and titled "florenz s. Apostoli." carl mell (1851-1936) was an austrian painter specializing in watercolor painting who took part in the viennese secessionist movement. Take a good look at the painting, it is extraordinary, all the nuances of the bricks, the clothes hanging out to dry blown by the wind, the smoke from the chimneys, the parts most exposed to the sun and those in shadow, a true work of art, beautiful, and i assure you that the photos do not do it justice, it is much more beautiful in real life.

the painting was photographed under a wood's lamp and appears to be in perfect condition. The signature is contemporary, the paper is quite thick and rough, and the back is heavily oxidized. This is a 100% original painting. From our internet research, we have found that carl mell has had several auction results, with some similar watercolors listed or sold at considerable prices. A watercolor depicting a similar landscape, smaller than ours, was listed at €800-1,000 and sold (poorly) for €500, excluding auction fees of 25-30%, by dorotheum in salzburg, austria, at the "weihnachtsauktion" auction on 17/11/2004, lot number 255, entitled "schloss leopoldskron im spätsommer," and another watercolor, also depicting a similar landscape, was listed at €720-800, again by dorotheum in salzburg, austria, but at the "klassische moderne und zeitgenössische kunst - moderne grafik" on 23/05/2007, lot no. 348 "altstadtgasse von salzburg mit blick auf die festung".
