Inspired by the spectacle of the circus, Matisse created this composition using his signature cut-paper technique, translating motion and drama into pure abstract form.
The fuchsia silhouette, sharp and powerful, suggests the knife thrower mid-performance — poised and focused. Floating shapes around him evoke movement and tension, bringing a graphic rhythm to the scene. The dynamic arrangement of forms creates an emotional intensity that is both playful and theatrical.
This lithograph was executed by hand at Atelier Aloys Litho near Paris, under the direction of master lithographer Mario Ferreri, using traditional stone lithography techniques.
The work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Mario Ferreri, confirming its provenance and artisanal production.
