Cartographer: John Speed (1552-1629)
Scarce early edition from Speed's "The Theatre of The Empire of Great Britaine" double glass framed so as to display the description of the county on the reverse. It is a truly fascinating early map, beautifully hand colored and written in an early form of modern English, still fairly removed from today's english. John Speed is considered to be one of the most important figures of within the history of English mapmakers. A true collector's item.
