Pair of Vintage Czech Bohemian Cut Opaline to Transparent Emerald Green Glass Lamps
Bohemian cut glass lamps with opaline-to-emerald green coloring are distinctive antique and vintage lamps made in the Bohemia region of the modern-day Czech Republic and feature a technique called "cased glass," where a layer of translucent white (opaline) glass is fused over a vibrant, transparent emerald green layer. The artistry is revealed when a skilled craftsman uses a cutting wheel to carve patterns into the white layer, exposing the brilliant green beneath.
Bohemian glass production originated in the Bohemia and Silesia regions, now part of the Czech Republic. The use of precise cutting and engraving techniques dates back centuries and gained international acclaim for its quality and artistry, becoming sought-after items for elegant homes across Europe and America
The crucial element of the lamps' construction is in the encasing of the colored transparent glass in the layer of opaque glass followed by the precision meticulous cutting with wheels to create the detailed, intricate designs. These cuts expose the different layers, revealing the contrasting colors. The combination of opaque, milky-white opaline glass with the rich, deep emerald green is a classic Bohemian style. Gold trim and detailing are commonly used to decorate and highlight various features of the lamp decorative elements. The glass is often mounted on ornate metal bases, which complement the decorative style.
These exceptionally beautiful lamps have an elegant uncluttered look, which enhances their beauty and aesthetic appeal. They are in very nice vintage condition with only normal signs of age. The intricately detailed metal bases have developed a very handsome patina over the years, which adds to the appeal of the lamps. The lamp bases are approximately 7 inches in diameter, and the lamps are 30.25 inches tall from the bottoms to the tops of the harps and finials. Examine the photos for details.
