A rare and striking pair of patinated bronze urns, designed in the Neo-Grec style and signed by French sculptor Henry Cahieux (1825–1854). Each urn features figural goddess-head handles, finely detailed Neoclassical relief scenes, and richly ornamented bronze bases with scrollwork and mask motifs — a more elaborate variation than the models sold at Sotheby’s and Christie’s.
Designer: Henry Cahieux (1825–1854), celebrated French artist known for his Neo-Grec designs, exhibited with Barbedienne at the 1855 Paris Exposition Universelle.
Signature: One urn signed H. Cahieux (as was customary in the 19th century for pairs).
Material: Solid cast bronze, with rich patina.
Dimensions: 17.75” tall. 7" Wide bottom of base. 5.5" Wide Handle to handle
Weight: 7.5 lbs each.
Comparable Provenance
This model has appeared in major sales, including:
Sotheby’s New York (2007): A pair by Cahieux/Barbedienne sold for $12,000.
Sotheby’s Paris (2011): Another pair sold for €10,000.
This pair represents an especially ornate variation, making them highly desirable for both collectors of 19th-century French bronzes and interior designers seeking sculptural statement pieces.
