Take a moment to look at this set of 4 magnificent Japanese Kutani porcelain ceremonial tea bowls painted in the Satsuma style from the Meiji period, circa 1900. We cannot emphasise how exquisite these are, they will not disappoint in any way whatsoever when seen in person.
Finely hand painted by mater artist Hayashiya Jisaburo in gold and enamels with wrap-around scenes depicting Samurai warriors, deities, Geishas, scholars and others engaged in various activities including martial arts & sword battles.
Further painted geometric turquoise, gold and black borders at top and bottom rims with floral forms and "jewels".
Markings: Signed on the underside with a painted red hallmark against a 5-lobed background in cobalt blue. Unusual inner rim border of blue waves.
Age: Meiji period circa 1900.
Acquired from a collector of Oriental / Asian porcelains who has amassed such over the last 40 years - listed by East2West Furniture Florida
Condition: Excellent.
Dimensions: Each is 1 3/4" tall x 3" diameter at top rim.
