Hand-knotted in wool circa 1780-1790, this 4x5 antique tribal rug is believed to be a rare 18th century piece from Turkey—an exciting new curation from Rug & Kilim.
On the Design:
This enjoys primitivist geometric patterns and a stepped mihrab arch—likely connoting a prayer rug, given its small size. Its colorway favors a most unusual raspberry red, a light gold border, and a range of light blue and green in the many playful accents throughout its archaic motifs. It’s an extremely collectible rug for its provenance, and a rich piece of history and rustic, old-world charm.
Condition:
This antique Turkish rug is a distressed piece, with notable wear in the outer border and field, but otherwise notably good condition for its age and origin. Available as is—most suitable for wall-hanging projects, tables and similar decorative purposes.
