Item description:
delightful glazed and vitrified ceramic coffee pot, entirely handmade on a potter's wheel with a spout and handle entirely modeled by hand, without any molds, a unique piece of great collectible value. Made in full art deco style, decorated with an airbrush with stylized flowers of various sizes on the main body of the coffee pot on a mustard background, while the spout, handle, and lid knob are in a beautiful cobalt blue. The rich vitrification makes the object extremely shiny, indicating that high-quality lead-based glazes were used. The object is signed under the base with the mark of the manufacturer, la fiamma, founded by ivos pacetti, and with the place of production, "albisola capo." the patina covering the object is very evident, perfectly in line with our dating. The spout is particularly beautiful, made from a very thick ceramic tube that rises above the main body of the coffee pot and protrudes forward in an extremely unusual shape, vaguely reminiscent of the shape of metal coffee pots from the 1800s.
useful information for evaluating the item:
from online research, we have found that auction prices for ivos pacetti and his "la fiamma" factory have maximum estimates reaching €1,800-€2,200 for a single large vase, a small ceramic box, only 13.5 cm high, and with a diameter smaller than the width of our coffee pot, and therefore slightly smaller, was valued at €400-500. We then found numerous other ceramics by ivos pacetti, estimated or sold at very high prices. A ceramic mask was valued at €1,500-1,800 by cambi casa d'aste - milan, italy, at the auction "ceramiche italiane e arti decorative del'900" on december 1, 2020, lot no. 24, entitled "masked female head (c.1930)". Another sculpture was valued at €1,000-1,100 by cambi casa d'aste - genoa, italy, at the "20th century decorative arts and design" auction on december 1, 2009, lot no. 48, entitled "madonna." a plate was estimated at €900-1,000 by boetto in genoa, italy, at the "selected design" auction on 15/04/2025, lot no. 2009, entitled "un piatto decorata" (a decorated plate). Then we found a vase, very simple in shape and decoration, 10 centimeters high and 27 centimeters wide, so not particularly large, sold for €600 (€750 including fees) by cambi auction house in milan, at the "italian ceramics and decorative arts of the 20th century" auction on 01/12/2020, lot number 39, entitled "vase with a polychrome enamel decor (c.1930)". Finally, we found a small vase, only 23 cm high, very simple, decorated with a small stylized tree, which was sold for €600 at auction (€750 including fees) by cambi casa d'aste - milan, italy, at the "italian ceramics and decorative arts of the 20th century" auction on december 1, 2020, lot number 38, entitled "the original sin (c.1930)". All this is to give a general idea of the value of the works of the "la fiamma" factory and ivos pacetti and a more specific idea of the value of smaller objects, such as ours.
(by entering the details of the items we have indicated into google, especially the title of the auction or sale listing in the same language we have used, the date, the lot number, and the auction house or name of the sales website, you will, in most cases, be able to find and view the items mentioned).
information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the "la fiamma" artistic ceramics factory was founded by ivos pacetti, who was also its artistic director, in the kilns of the former "fenice" in albisola capo in 1929. In 1935, the sculptor agenore fabbri was hired as a modeler, and the following year, some of his works won a gold medal at the vi triennale di milano. During the same period, he collaborated with the nino strada factory. In the 1930s, ivos pacetti's workshop produced numerous art deco and rationalist style ceramics and several works inspired by futurism of great artistic importance, but all the products of this factory were always of high technical and formal quality. In 1938, ivos pacetti closed the factory and, in 1939, moved to albisola capo to become artistic director at the "i.l.s.a." factory. In the last photo, we have added further historical information about the factory and biographical details about ivos pacetti for those who wish to learn more.
