fabulous lot of three majolica ceramic animals, entirely hand-modeled, glazed, vitrified, and decorated, made by the famous icaro factory in rhodes. Two are signed under the base and one is unsigned, likely due to lack of space, as it is the smallest of the three. The three sculptures depict three birds, presumably a hen, a goose, and a pheasant or peacock. They date from the early decades of the 20th century, the german-vietre period.

information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
the icaro artistic ceramics factory was active in rhodes, greece, during the italian occupation. Founded in 1929 by ceramists from faenza, it produced ceramic furnishings with oriental-style decorations, often inspired by iznik motifs, as well as art deco-inspired pieces. Among the collaborators of the factory, which operated until 1944, were the austrian gunther studemann, sophia van stolk, and the austrian painter hegor huber.
