Artwork sold with frame (90 x 126 x 8 cm) Stephan Kergur, also known as Stefan or Stanisław Kergur, was a French-based painter of Polish origin active in the early 20th century. Though precise details about his birth and death remain unknown, records confirm he was active from at least 1918 through the late 1920s. Kergur played a significant role in the Polish émigré art scene in Paris, serving as President of the Society of Polish Artists in France. His leadership and public engagements positioned him as a key cultural figure among Polish artists in exile. Kergur is most notably remembered for his 1918 solo exhibition titled La Mer – 120 Études Expressives, held at the Casino Municipal in Trouville, France. This exhibition, focusing on the theme of the sea, suggests a strong interest in expressive maritime subjects. He also participated in collective Polish art exhibitions in Paris, including the 1918–1919 Exposition d’artistes polonais, attended by high-ranking French officials. While no public collections or auction records have been directly linked to his artworks, Kergur’s contributions to the Parisian Polish art community were widely acknowledged in contemporary press and society events. Today, he remains an obscure figure in major art historical lexicons, but his role as an organizer and exhibitor reflects a vibrant presence in post-WWI émigré culture in France.
